By Debbie Elicksen.
Written and directed by Guy Ritchie, this crime drama is very Boondock Saints-like. RocknRolla (2008) is a fun movie with intertwining characters who are all of questionable standing.
It begins with a crooked land deal with the Russians, millions of dollars at play, and a group of seasoned criminals looking for a get rich quick scheme. A valuable painting is offered as a sign of trust towards for the real estate transaction, but the canvas disappears and ends up in several different hands. The quest to find the stolen painting sets the stage for the rest of the plot.
There are some good moments between Gerard Butler (One Two), Tom Hardy (Handsome Bob), and Idris Elba (Mumbles). Tom Wilkinson (Lenny Cole) is the man orchestrates the land deal. Thandie Newton, Mark Strong, and Ludacris also star in the film.
It has some good moments, but seems to be missing a few pieces to score higher than two out of five stars.
