The premise for the movie Silence (2016), directed by Martin Scorsese, is two Portugese missionaries put themselves in grave danger to learn about what happened to their mentor in Japan, where a pogrom has been declared on Christians. The language in Andrew Garfield’s narration is so poetically beautiful. The setting absolutely deserved an Oscar nomination for Best Cinematography (Rodrigo Prieto. Adam Driver, Liam Neeson, and Tadanobu Asano also star.
“Christ did not die for the beautiful.” The movie is filled with graphic images and disturbing scenes but it is at the very least a four out of five.
